RUInternet, cleaning and staff at a Bali villa: how it works
Short answer. Most Bali villas have wired internet and Wi-Fi; the speed depends on the area and the provider, usually higher in Canggu and Seminyak and less stable in Ubud and further north. Cleaning and gardening are included in the rent on a set schedule, while a cook, a nanny or a driver are ordered separately. If the connection is not enough for work, the local provider fixes it and we help with the request.
Internet
- Fibre and cable: the most stable option, present in most villas in the tourist areas.
- Mobile internet as a backup: a local SIM with a large data bundle is inexpensive and saves you when the cable drops.
- Speed varies not across the island as a whole but by the specific address. So we test the internet at the property during a viewing and record the result in the description, rather than promising "fast internet" in general.
Coworking spaces in Canggu, Seminyak and Ubud are the fallback: a stable connection, air conditioning, meeting rooms. More on that in the separate article about internet and coworking.
Cleaning and maintenance
- Cleaning is included in the rent: more often on short stays, usually a few times a month on long-term ones.
- The gardener and the pool service come on the owner's schedule; that is their responsibility, not yours.
- Bed linen and towels are changed with the cleaning, laundry is usually handled by the cleaning service.
If you need cleaning more often, that is a separate service, arranged and paid for on top.
Staff and extra services
A cook, a nanny, a driver, in-villa massage, grocery delivery: all of these are ordered separately. Some villas have their own staff and a price list for extra services; for others we bring in people we have worked with. It is best to order in advance, especially in high season.
The management company and who fixes problems
Appliances, the pool and breakdowns are the responsibility of the management company or the owner. If an air conditioner or a pump fails, it goes through them, and we help make contact and follow it up so it does not drag on for a week. This is one of the reasons we view a property ourselves: it shows whether the villa has live maintenance or not.
