Where to eat in Bali: warungs, cafés and delivery to the villa
In short. Eating in Bali follows the areas: in Canggu and Seminyak breakfast cafés and coffee shops line the main streets, in Ubud there are more local and vegetarian places. A warung, a small family kitchen, sits near almost every villa. Delivery to the villa is constant here, so a kitchen at home is not for everyone.
How eating is organised
A warung is a family place serving local food: nasi campur, nasi goreng, mee goreng, grilled chicken or fish. Portions are simple, they come fast, you pay in cash. Cafés serving breakfast line the main streets of Canggu, Seminyak and Ubud: smoothie bowls, eggs, coffee, often with laptops on the tables. Restaurants sit a level up: Asian, European, vegetarian, sometimes with a wine list. Separate again are the coffee places with rice-field views north of Ubud.

What it means for choosing a villa
If walking to a café matters to you, it is the street that decides, not the villa: in Canggu the residential lanes run several minutes on foot off the main road, and that changes the whole rhythm of the trip. If you want quiet, a house with a kitchen or with staff who cook works better; delivery to the villa here is standard practice, not an exception.
What to check before booking
- Whether there is a warung nearby and how long the walk is.
- Whether delivery covers the area: GoFood and GrabFood cover the tourist zones, outlying villages less well.
- Whether the villa has a kitchen, a stove and a fridge of a useful size.
- Who cleans and washes up if you cook yourself.
We do not publish dish prices: they move with the exchange rate and differ by area. Where we give a number, we name the source and the date.
